Gorges State Park is a 7,500-acre concentration of over 80 rare plant and animal species, including the largest population of green salamanders in North Carolina. The only state park west of Asheville, Gorges State Park is home to an incredible topography including waterfalls, sheer rock walls, river gorges and unmatched natural beauty. Being relatively undeveloped, the park's guests enjoy boating and fishing in its many streams and rivers, as well as camping and hiking on any of its numerous nature trails. The park straddles the South Carolina state line, south of Sapphire.
